Probability- Ian's Ice Cream

Drien'dobry room 19,

We are getting rather good at solving probability problems now! Here is a word problem for you to solve.

Answer both parts and remember to say how you got to your answer.

Ian sells ice creams. His shop sells 2 types of cone, plain or chocolate.

The flavors he sells are strawberry, vanilla, banana, caramel, lemon, mint and raspberry.

How many different combinations could you have with a cone and one scoop?

If everyone in the class chose a different combination, what is the probability of getting a plain cone and honey ice cream?

Remember, the usual blog posting rules apply.

  1. How many different combinations could you have with a cone and one scoop? You could have 12 different ice creams. 6 x plain cone with each of the flavours plus 6 x chocolate cone with each of the flavours = 12 combinations

If everyone in the class chose a different combination, what is the probability of getting a plain cone and honey ice cream? Probability would be 0 because there is no honey ice cream.
